On a rare leave, US Army colonel Griff Carson announces he's shortlisted from promotion to general, again meaning long periods overseas, otherwise soon to be retired but reunited with his family, who miss him, and uses the time to get a taste of civilian life. He's not really needed as handyman and his military style goes badly with the neighbors, mistaking daughter Kim's lover Ray MacEwan for a robber and still grilling him scarily as date caller. Wife Janet ask him to help out at her old-fashioned cupcake store, but his first day is as disastrous as his sincere efforts inept.
